It is so easy to overlook decorating your foyer. After all, it is just somewhere you pass through to get to the rooms where we feel most at home. But your foyer should set the stage for what your guests can expect from your home.
This is my foyer in the evening at Christmas.
This is my foyer during the rest of the year. I must admit that after taking down all the Christmas decor I find it easier to just stick this coat rack in the corner and be done with it.
In my previous home I had a round table in the center of the foyer. I started out with the same table in my current foyer but there was not enough space for everyone to navigate around the table and sometimes we would create a slight traffic jam during large parties.
I decided the coat rack had to go! I tried table after table in this corner. But since I already had a table in the corner directly opposite this one I felt like I needed something different. That was when I remembered my daughter had left a chair in her old bedroom that she did not have room for in her new home. I sweet talked my husband into moving it downstairs and somehow convinced him that a chair in the foyer was just what we needed……
After moving the pictures up higher (taking 3 tries to get the right height), I then borrowed the green garden stool from my bathroom, the maize colored throw from my den couch and I moved my fiddle leaf fig from Pottery Barn to the corner of my dining room. I love how it adds a natural element to this vignette and the adorable pom pom basket was given to me by my mom for Mother’s Day and can be found here at Ballard Design.
This makes the perfect spot to have a cup of coffee and read a good book.
Now, when my guests walk through my front door my foyer says, “Welcome. Please come on in and sit for a spell!” Take a look at your foyer and think outside the box. Add something interesting and personal that says welcome to all your guests who enter your home.
Blessings and Joy,
Tammy
