Somehow, over the last few years we started creating a theme for our Christmas Parties. First year we did a Buddy the Elf theme. Last year we did The Night Before Christmas theme. This year I became obsessed with The Grinch. Something about the colors of citrus green, red and white made me happy just thinking about a Grinch theme! I loved the idea so much I decided the tree in our foyer HAD to be a Grinch Tree!
I admit….. I started working on this tree in the summer. I found Grinch Christmas Cards by Hallmark on Ebay. I bought these swirly frames (I think they look whoville-ish) from Michaels and spray painted them bright Christmas Red. My cards were slightly smaller than the 5 by 7 opening so I matted them onto citrus green cardstock (which also made the backs look prettier) then I used permanent scrapbook tape to attach them to the frames. I love, love, LOVE the way they turned out! I like that they are big and graphic within my tree. Your eye goes straight to them! And I wanted a couple of items on my tree that specifically said “Grinch”! I just nestled the frames in my tree and bent some of my branches around them to secure them in place.
The other Grinch ornaments on my tree are the “Grinch Heart” ornaments. “His heart grew three sizes”, so I used my Sizzix heart die and Sizzix machine to cut two felt hearts in three different sizes. I then sewed them in a straight line without cutting the thread so that they hung one after the other and can swirl around some. I added the citrus green bows and a hanger. I think they are so cute on the tree.
Tree Toppers are always hard for me. For one thing, you have to go up and down the ladder a gazillion times. Second, this was a new tree for me so I had an idea in my mind but my first try at the topper was awful looking. I should have taken a picture but just looking at it made me soooo disappointed.
I went to bed and woke up the next morning and went to Hobby Lobby AGAIN! (I should buy stock in Hobby Lobby!) I came home and pulled everything off and started over again using all my old stuff as well as the new stuff I had bought. The three ribbons and all the greenery came from Hobby Lobby.
My bow just “looks” like a bow. It is really 3-5 loops of one colored ribbon tied into bunches. And I just placed one bunch of ribbon in the top, then put another bunch beside, under, around etc. So it looks like a huge bow with some short tails. I did this so that I could stick those adorable sticks down into the middle of the bow without messing up the bow. I alternated adding ribbon bunches with the greenery picks till I got the exact look I wanted.
All of the ornaments, except for the glass Shiny Brite ornaments came from Hobby Lobby.
Huge citrus green glitter balls, red and white polka dot balls, some red glitter ornaments, and citrus green matt finish balls.
The felt holly garland was in the wrapping section for presents but it worked just fine as garland.
The red, green and white berries came from At Home and I do not lie, we went back four times for more because I went crazy sticking those things everywhere! But they certainly say “Whoville”!
My tree skirt is two rolls of Deco Mesh twisted and scrunched up under the tree. If you notice, I have a tin container with The Grinch stuffed toy and the book, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” I am hosting several parties/groups this season and have asked everyone to bring a Dr. Seuss book to place under my Whoville Tree. We will be donating these books to my church’s book drive.
Also under My Whoville Tree I have a white basket filled with treats! This is a game I created for my family to play on Christmas Eve and I will have a post later on how to make them. But for now, HAPPY WHO-LIDAYS EVERYONE!
“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store.”
“Maybe Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”
“And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” Luke 2:12
